Why is staring at screens bad for me?
Humans are not meant to stare at digital screens (whether laptops, monitors, phones, tablets, or TVs) all day long. Our eyes are at rest when we’re looking 20 feet away. In front of our computer, though, we're staring 18-24 inches away for long periods of time. This could overwork the ciliary muscle in the back of our eye, which is constantly spasming back and forth to adjust to the close viewing.
As a result, many ophthalmologists, optometrists, and researchers point to the potential negative effects that computer screens could have on our vision and health. This includes Digital Eye Strain (also known as Computer Vision Syndrome) - which may encompasses a variety of symptoms like dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, eye fatigue, and neck and back pain. Felix Gray lenses are specially designed to filter 50% of all and almost 90% of the most impactful ranges of Blue Light, while eliminating 99% of glare to help combat these negative and uncomfortable effects.
What makes the Amber lenses different?
Our amber glasses are a more enhanced way to specifically filter the range of Blue Light that impacts melatonin secretion (440-500 nm wavelengths) and support the quality of your rest. Our clinically backed amber lens acts as a natural sleep aid that minimizes color distortion while softly dimming the light intensity, making them ideal to unwind before bedtime.
Because our amber lenses filter up to 23x more blue light than other blue light lenses, and reduce the light intensity, they are often found soothing by migraine sufferers or those recovering from head injuries.
When should I wear my Amber glasses?
For better sleep - put on your amber glasses when you come home in the evening or from 8pm. The longer you wear them, the more effective they are in assisting you with a better night’s rest.
For calming headaches - blue light can be especially triggering for or worsen headaches and migraines. Wearing Felix Gray amber glasses preventative or when you feel a headache coming on may help.
Are Amber lenses available in prescription or readers?
Felix Gray amber glasses are available in non-prescription, prescription, and reader magnifications of +0.5, +1.0, +1.5, +2.0, and +2.5. We can fill prescriptions with a spherical value (SPH) between +2.00 and -3.00 up to a -/+ 2.00 cylinder (CYL).
Will the Amber lenses affect my color perception?
Felix Gray amber lenses were engineered to minimize color distortion despite the lens tint. This way, you don’t have to worry about looking through heavy yellow tinted lenses that drastically affect color perception.
What material are the Felix Gray Amber lenses made of?
Felix Gray's amber lenses are made out of High Impact 1.56 lenses, which is a super lightweight and impact resistant material. It has a very high Abbe value and is optically superior to polycarbonate lenses. While the lens tint is more yellow than the Felix Gray proprietary clear lens, our amber lens specifically filters more of the range of Blue Light that is most disruptive to our natural sleep cycle in the 440 nm - 500 nm range. The soothing amber color slightly dims the light intensity, making them ideal for unwinding before bedtime.
What do I need to know about prescription orders?
What is the difference between Single Vision and Progressive lenses?
Single Vision lenses offer one correction throughout the entire lens (usually for distance, intermediate, or reading).Progressive lenses offer multiple focal corrections in one lens, providing a seamless transition from distance correction on top to reading correction on bottom. If you have a progressive prescription, it will contain an ADD value.
How do I obtain a prescription?
Make an appointment with your local optical provider, optometrist, or ophthalmologist for an eye exam. Make sure to request that they include your pupillary distance (PD) with the prescription.
How do I submit my prescription?
When you've chosen your Felix Gray frames and selected a prescription lens, you will be emailed after checkout to submit your prescription. Should your pupillary distance (PD) measurement not be included on your prescription, you will also be prompted to follow our PD measurement steps which will be the information we need to process your prescription order.
What are prescription lenses made of?
For all clear lens prescriptions orders, the standard material is CR39. Felix Gray offers the option to upgrade to 1.67 High Index lenses. High Index lenses are thinner and lighter than plastic lenses, making them optically superior. This allows us to offer the highest quality prescription lenses to all of our customers at an affordable price.
For all amber lens prescription orders, we use 1.56 Mid Index lenses, making them 15% thinner than standard lenses.
All kids prescription glasses are made with polycarbonate lenses for safety and comfort. Polycarbonate lenses are virtually shatterproof, 10 times more impact-resistant and 20% thinner and lighter than standard plastic lenses. Ideal for running around carefree on the playground!
How do I measure my pupillary distance?
Your pupillary distance (PD) is the measurement in millimeters between your pupils. It allows us to locate the optical center of your lenses so the prescription is correctly placed in the glasses. If your doctor didn't include this measurement with your prescription, the following options are available to you:
- Measure your pupillary distance using the PD tool via the link in your confirmation email.
- Call your doctor or optical provider to request your PD measurement.
- Visit an optical location to get your PD measured. This is either free or requires a small fee. Once you learn your PD, you will include that value in your confirmation form.
What are polarized lenses?
Light waves from the sun or light bulbs reflect in all directions, which can create an intense amount of glare. Polarized lenses help eliminate the scattering of light and only allow light to travel in one direction, which reduces glare. Our thin polarized lens increases outdoor readability on digital devices anddiminishes distortion for optical clarity.
How do Felix Gray polarized lenses compare to standard tinted lenses?
Light moves in many directions and can emit vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Tinted sunglasses decrease light intensity, but in doing so cause colors to appear dull and muted. In fact, tinted lenses don’t increase color richness or eliminate glare, and only disturb vertical and horizontal light. Felix Gray’s polarized sunglasses, on the other hand, go an extra step further. Our lenses remove glare and distortion by only allowing vertical light through the lens. Our thin polarized lenses improve optical clarity for an overall heightened visual experience.
Do Felix Gray sunglasses offer UV protection?
Yes! Our sunglasses block 100% UVA/UVB light. According to The Vision Council, the sun emits UVA, UVB, and UVC. The Earth’s atmosphere absorbs UVC rays, but UVB rays are not fully blocked and can still burn the eyes and skin. The most harmful rays (according to the World Health Organization) are UVA rays, which are not blocked by the atmosphere and are responsible for the most damage to vision health.
Do you offer prescription sunglasses?
Yes, we do offer single vision or progressive lens options in our sunglasses!

Do Felix Gray glasses reduce glare?
Glare is emitted from many sources of light, including digital screens such as desktop monitors, laptop screens, phone screens, tablets, and TVs. It is a common and often overlooked culprit of Digital Eye Strain. Symptoms of DES (also known as Computer Vision Syndrome), which could include eye strain, dry eyes, blurred vision, and headaches.
Our lenses have a premium anti-glare coating to eliminate 99% of glare, which optimizes our visual acuity.
Glare can be a particularly distracting and straining problem at night. It’s one of the reasons looking at screens in dark settings is even harder on the eye (helpful tip: keep lights on when you’re doing work in front of your computer! By doing so, your environment is better lit and the effects of glare are less intense). Because our lenses eliminate 99% of glare, our glasses may also assist with driving at night when the glare from other cars and surrounding lights are intensified.
Ultimately, Felix Gray’s anti-glare coating aims to provide sharper optics and relaxed eyes. We are dedicated to making people’s lives happier in front of the screen!
Do your glasses come with a warranty?
We provide a one (1) year warranty on all of our products. If there is a problem with the products, please contact us to discuss the matter further. If the products are found to be defective within the warranty period, you will be entitled to a replacement at no additional cost to you. If a replacement is not available, you may claim a full or partial refund.
No claim for faulty goods can be made if any of the following applies: damage caused deliberately or negligently, improper use or careless maintenance, normal wear and tear, damage caused by not heeding or incorrectly heeding the cleaning and maintenance instructions.
My frames are a little out of shape. Can I fix them?
We designed Felix Grays with a malleable acetate frame, allowing your pair to mold to your unique fit over time. Our frames are made out of premium cellulosic acetate which is predominately a plant-based material, lightweight and hypoallergenic. The material is more susceptible to temperature changes and may slightly warp.
If your pair gets bent-out-of-shape through regular use, gentle adjusting at the temple arms of the frame will get your Felix Grays back into perfect shape! While the temple arms have an inner frame wire to maintain the integrity of the glasses, the nose bridge does not so please avoid adjustments to the bridge of the frames.
You can adjust them yourself by gently warming the area you'd like to adjust, being careful not to overheat. Bend gradually to the desired shape.
Or take them to an optical provider to perfectly fit your face since they have the proper instrumentation for adjustments.
How do I find the right fit?
Finding the perfect pair of glasses is about comfort and personal style. Use our virtual try on tool or this frame selector guide to find frames that highlight your best features and feel effortless to wear every day.
What are the key features of Felix Gray sunglasses?
Color Enhancement
When Blue Light hits your eye it scatters more than any other color (fun fact: the scattering effect of Blue Light is the same reason the sky appears blue). This mutes the richness of the visual spectrum. Our sunglasses are infused with our proprietary Blue Light filtering technology, block 100% UVA/UVB, and enhance all colors to their truest form.
Polarization
When light reflects off surfaces, like water, it creates an intense amount of glare. Our polarized lens filterslight, reducesglare, and increases outdoor readability on digital devices for vivid accuracy.
360-degree protection
Light hits more than just the front of the lens. That’s why our superhydrophobic backside AR (anti-reflective) coating reduces indirect light from reflecting back into your eyes.
What lens options are available for Kids glasses?
Our kids’ clear glasses come standard with polycarbonate lenses which are lightweight and impact resistant. Polycarbonate lenses are recommended for adolescent use since they are the most impact-resistant and safe lens option for children. The polycarbonate lens includes an Anti-Reflective coating in addition to a scratch-resistant coating that is applied to the optical surface of the lens. We offer kids glasses in single vision prescription, and non-prescription lenses for ages 4-8 (small) and 9-13 (large).
Our kids’ amber glasses are made of High Impact 1.56 lenses, which are also lightweight and impact resistant. While the lens tint is more yellow than the Felix Gray proprietary clear lens, our amber lens specifically filters the range of Blue Light that is most disruptive to our natural sleep cycle in the 440 nm - 500 nm range. They are clinically backed and act as a natural sleep aid while minimizing color distortion. A recent study found when participants wore our lenses, they had an increase in melatonin levels, less awakening during sleep, and evidence of improved cognition compared to when they wore dummy lenses.
